Also known as kitcheree, this dish is cooked to a state of soupy-thickness, making it "pre-digested" (really a selling point, huh?) and is therefore incredibly easy to digest and very satisfying. A perfectly balanced protein dish suitable for cleanses, cold weather, sicknesses, fortitude, or simple comfort food. Try eating just this with lots of water and yogi tea for a few days and see how you feel!

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Wash beans and rice. Bring water to a boil, add rice and beans, and let simmer over medium-high flame while you prepare your vegetables. Then add vegetables to cooking rice and beans.
  2. Heat oil (about 1/2 cup) (oil is in the instructions but not in the list of ingredients. Sorry!!) in large frying pan. Add onions, ginger and garlic and saute over medium-high flame until browning. Add all spices besides salt and herbs. When nicely well done, combine onions with cooking beans and rice.
  3. You will now need to stir the dish often, to prevent scorching. Add herbs. Continue to cook and stir until totally and completely well-done. The consistency should be rich, thick and soup-like, with ingredients barely discernable.
  4. Serve with yogurt, or with cheese melted over the top.(I like to eat it with a heap of ghee.)
