YELLOW RICE WITH PEAS

This is very, very satisfying! It's from The 1972 Hare Krishna Cookbook, which is a treat to cook your way through. The only change is that I use less salt (and I like salt, but honestly a Tablespoon was too much).

Heat oil and add cumin seeds. When it browns, add crushed chillis and black pepper. Add washed, drained white rice and stir. Add salt and turmeric. When rice sticks a little to the side of the pan, add peas. Then add the water and bring to a boil. Cover and lower flame. Cook for 15-20 minutes and check to see if rice is done. Do not stir until after rice is cooked.

A very nice rice dish -- colorful for feasts and very tasty.
