Ingredients:
- 4 T oil (ghee is nice, so is coconut)
- 1/2 T cumin seeds
- 1 1/2 t crushed chillis
- 1/2 t ground black pepper
- 1/2 T turmeric powder
- 1 t salt
- 1/2 lb peas
- 1 3/4 cups water
- 1 cup white rice
Instructions:
Heat oil and add cumin seeds. When it browns, add crushed chillis and black pepper. Add washed, drained white rice and stir. Add salt and turmeric. When rice sticks a little to the side of the pan, add peas. Then add the water and bring to a boil. Cover and lower flame. Cook for 15-20 minutes and check to see if rice is done. Do not stir until after rice is cooked.
A very nice rice dish -- colorful for feasts and very tasty.
